This page is dedicated to our dear friend Marie Nixon (nee Tranter). I know many people knew her as Maria, but to me she will always be Marie.
I met Marie at the age of 5 at Rakegate Infants School in Renton Road. We were in the same class and soon became friends in and out of school. Marie was a hugely popular girl, always laughing and making the most of life. In our early teens we got into the latest music and would attend lots of local disco's which usually played Northern Soul music which Marie loved. In our mid teens we were into the Bay City Rollers, and would often be seen donning our tartan scarves and accessories. We had paper rounds at the local shops, and eventually were taken on as Sunday morning counter assistants too. That was a great way of getting the opportunity to pinch cigarettes and Cadbury's creme eggs ;-) Yes I know it was wrong, but hey they didn't pay us much to haul around huge paper sacks.
On the subject of cigarettes... One Christmas we were desperate for a smoke and had no money. We carefully unwrapped a packet of cigars that Marie had bought for Uncle Jim's christmas present and took out one cigar for us to share. I can remember Marie laughing as she re-joined the plastic wrapper saying that Uncle Jim wouldn't notice he he he!!!!
On the subject of cigarettes again....we used to steal her dads and Uncle Jim's "Woodbines" too......
Monday night's saw us attending "Club Lafayette" in Wolverhampton for the 15-18's club. This was a teen's disco, and obviously no alcohol was served. The music by then had turned to traditional soul..and one of Marie's favourite tracks was "Reaching for the Best" by The Exciters. This track will always always remind me of my friend Marie....
Another of Marie's favourite tracks at the time was "Better use your head" by Little Anthony and the Imperials, and a track called "I'm your Pimp" by The Skull snaps. This was not main stream music and in those days we had to go to "Ruby Red Records" in Wolverhampton to get these titles.
For a few years Marie and I lost touch and then in our later teens we both ended up being regulars in "The Tavern" in Wolverhampton which was a bikers pub. Marie was living with a hells angel called Bobby and I was with a biker called Colin. We loved the rock scene and were most happy in our jeans and leathers headbanging to AC/DC and Black Sabbath. Marie lived in Blakenhall and was actually an "Old Lady" which was a term of endearment meaning that she was the woman of a Hells Angel. She had a lovely Staffordshire bull terrier and was quite happy for a time. We lost touch many many times, but it was one of those friendships whereby we both knew that we would always always be there for each other no matter what.
In 2002 I eventually caught up with Marie again at the grand old age of 41. It was the year of our school leaving 25 year reunion and we met for the first time in years and it was like we had never been apart. An unconditional friendship, where we laughed as loud and madly as we had done in our teenage years, and shared the same silly sense of humour once more. We hugged and we laughed, we reminisced and we sighed.................and we vowed never to lose touch ever again and we didn't...........and you know what?...we never ever will.

FRIDAY
If we could have a lifetime wish
And one dream that could come true
We would pray to God with all our
Hearts just to see and speak to you
A thousand words won’t bring you back
We know because we’ve tried
And neither will a million tears
We know because we’ve cried
You’ve left behind our broken hearts
And precious memories too
But we’ve never wanted memories
We only wanted you

SATURDAY
God saw you getting tired
And a cure was not to be.
So he put his arms around you,
And whispered "Come to Me".
With tearful eyes we watched you,
We watched you fade away.
Although we loved you dearly,
We could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands now rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.
ANON
SUNDAY
Life is but a stopping place,
A pause in what's to be,
A resting place along the road,
To sweet eternity.
We all have different journeys,
Different paths along the way,
We are all meant to learn some things,
But never meant to stay.
Our destination is a place,
Far greater than we know,
For some the journey's quicker,
For some the journey's slow.
But when the journey finally ends,
We'll claim a great reward,
And find an everlasting peace,
Together with the Lord.

CHRISTMAS BLESSINGS XXX
May god find peace in your familys hearts at this time of year and to let them no that you are alwaays near xxx
Don't think of her as gone away,
Her journey's just begun.
Life holds so many facets,
This earth is only one.
Just think of her as resting
from the sorrows and the tears,
In a place of warmth and comfort
Where they are no days and years.
Think how she must be wishing
That we could know today,
How nothing but our sadness
Can really pass away.
And think of her as living
In the hearts of those she touched,
For nothing loved is ever lost
And she was loved so much
